July 8, 2010 Dear Classmates, As usual, we are meeting for lunch on the 3rd Friday of the month at 11:30 a.m. Our group continues to grow, with an average attendance of 17 at our meetings this year. It's good to see so many men coming, too. That date this month is next week, Friday, July 16, at 11:30 a.m., and we'll be meeting again at the old Rainbow Pharmacy on the east side of the square in Carrollton, the location of all of our luncheons since the first of this year. We'll eat, chat and take a few pictures, so be sure to bring your camera. Your spouses are definitely invited. Although we usually meet for about an hour and a half, we'd be delighted to have you join us for as much of the time as you can. In order to save us a bit of time on making follow-up phone calls, please acknowledge receipt of this email, and indicate whether or not you're planning to come. Blessings, Rose April 30, 2010 Dear Classmates, We are happy to report that John Br_ is recovering from a kidney stone attack. He and Vivian have rescheduled the Fish Fry for Saturday, May 15 - Time is noon-ish. We realize that this is only two weeks' notice and that May is a busy month, but here are the details just in case you're free. The place will be the Brim Farm (same place as the Saturday part of our 50th Class Reunion last May, ONE YEAR AGO TO THE DAY.) A map is available at the link below.
Bring a side dish (and you can even bring your grandkids to fish!) As always, please let us know if you'll be joining us. Blessings, Rose April 29, 2010 Slide show displays have been improved (I hope). The top banner link to pages no longer shows accross the top of your screen when you access a slide show on this CHS 1959 web site (there is a whole bunch of them). A "Back to Previous Page" button takes the banner's place. This provides more vertical space (again, I hope) for the slide show photos. Just click the new "Back to --" button after viewing the show and you will be returned to the previous web page at which you were looking (note the "at which" instead of ending the sentence with "looking at" - Mrs. Ogle would be proud). There is a code within every web page on this site that tells your browser to go back to the server on the Internet to get the latest, updated version of the page; however, some classmates' browsers do not do this - they get the old one from the browser's "cache on the harddrive" (that is Geek talk). Apparently, there are settings in the browser or browser errors or a "Dark Side Geek" causing this problem. I have inserted some additional code tricks in a few of our site's web pages as a test. Actually, I have no way of knowing if they work or not unless I hear a classmate ask "where are the updates?" April 23, 2010 The Fish Fry at Brim Farm for April 24 has been postponned. Please check back for further information. April 21, 2010 John and Vivian Brim are hosting a fish fry at their home in Forrestburg (same place we went for the Saturday part of our 50th Class Reunion last May), and we are all invited. The date is Saturday, April 24, 2010. The times is noon-ish. Bring a side dish, and you can even bring your grandkids to fish! A link to the map to their farm is below.

We'll eat, chat and take a few pictures, so be sure to bring your camera. Your spouses are definitely invited. Blessings, Rose March 9, 2010 March 2010 Get-Together - We're having lunch this month at the Old Rainbow Grill, downtown square, Carrollton on Friday, March 26. Anyone interested, let Nancy know. March 7, 2010 Earnestine Sp_ has set up a group on Facebook called "Carrolton High School Class of 59." All CHS 1959 Classmates that use Facebook are invited to join. Earnestine recommends that "it would be a great way to see what people look like that we haven't seen in a while and we can all enjoy communicating with each other." December 12, 2009 The class extends our sympathy to Robby on the passing of his wife, Mary Lou, on November 18, 2009 in Falconhead, Burneyville, Oklahoma. Robby and Mary Lou moved to Falconhead from Carrollton in July 2003. Our prayers to Robby, their two daughters, son, and three grandsons. Linda recently wed Tillman in Denton. Linda and Tillman met in their church. Tillman is a former police officer. If you are emailing Nancy, just replace everything after the @ sign with gmail.com . The next gathering of classmates in the DFW area will be the 3rd Friday of January 2010 at the Old Rainbow Grill on the Carrollton Square. In past months, 7 to 12 folks have shown up at these events (hey, some of the guys show up too). These folks are having fun so contact Nancy Dr_ or Linda Sc_ if you need any info. August 31, 2009 Linda has sent in a CD of digital pictures taken at planning meetings for the 50th Reunion, 50th Reunion Event at her home, and gatherings after the 50th in the DFW Metroplex. You can view a photo slideshow of the DFW Metroplex gatherings via the link below:
August 8, 2009 . . . Hey classmates, I've been alerted to a great website that we can all enjoy…try:
. . . The credit for the data goes to Edward Lynn Williams. His dad (Charles) was class of '54 and his mom was Cora Sue Grimm, class of 55. You can also access the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Historical site there too. . . . Do any of you remember a class assignment we had when we were in about the 5th grade (I think Mrs. Gallagher was the teacher). We were instructed to gather information by interviewing older residents in Carrollton and compiling a history of Carrollton. Wonder what happened to that final product? . . . Also, I have a new email address. (Click the Main/Contact link above to request the address.) . . . Our CHS 1959 web pages just keep getting better. Thanks to all responsible! July 28, 2009 Visitation will be Thursday evening (July 30) 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am Friday (July 31) at the same place and will be followed by a procession to Hilltop Cemetery in Carrollton. You will find directions and additional information at the funeral home's web site http://www.hawkinsfuneralhome.com/ . July 25, 2009 We grabbed a title out of our old school paper and created a new home page to keep everybody up to date on some of the "goings on." What you will be reading here comes from phone calls, emails, running into folks, and whatever. Click that Contact Link and let us know stuff we can post here. By the way, be sure to read the 50th Reunion Article and take a look at the three slides shows on the 50th Reunion Page. Enjoy! General Note: 06/03/2009 Paul and Karen De__ have prepared a CD of digital photos taken at the three events of the 50th Reunion on May 15 and 16, 2009. If you are interested in obtaining a CD, click the "Main/Contact" link at the top of the page and send an email to let us know. We will get you in touch with Paul and Karen. The 50th Reunion slideshow of photos on this web site consists of just a few of the approximately 200 photos on the CD. Email: 03/14/2009 An article about Dr. Helen Harkness and others appeared on the front page of the Dallas Morning News on March 12, 2009, entitled "Coaches help jobless baby boomers work out frustrations, new careers" by Bob Moos, a staff writer. Linda Sc_ Email: 01/17/2009 Hi Nancy, I noticed you put a note on the web site about Dorothy Ma_. We grew up together in Addison. I called her this morning and was surprised to hear she had the same illness as I had. I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed our class web site. Thanks again for all the work you put into it. Hugs, Jo Ann Pi_ Collected News Items Thru 01/10/2009 Gary and Barbara Ro_ reminded us all to keep our children and grandchildren in our prayers during these pressing economic times which are really tough on all young families. Jobs and financial issues are pressing on our kids. Dorothy Ma_ is recovering from surgery. She is home and working to get her strength back. Robby Na_'s wife, Mary Lou, is using an oxygen machine most of the time now. JoAnne Pi_'s husband, Thomas Ra_ is home from the rehab hospital. A physical therapist comes during the week. The recovery is slow but he is getting better. Let's just keep all of these folks in our thoughts and prayers. Nancy Dr_ Co_ Bio Submission: 11/30/2008 We extend our congratulations and best wishes to Eileen No_ and Fred Ha_. Below is an excerpt from one of their bio submissions: " . . On August 23, 2008, at eleven o'clock in the morning, we got married !!! Yes, we can't believe it either!! Who says class reunions can't be fun and life-changing!! We reconnected at the reunion last October 2007 and got together a week or so later to catch up on what had happened to us over the years. We were always good buddies - and that friendship evolved (rather quickly!) into something much more! :) We had wanted to surprise everyone at the BIG 50th reunion, but since we had to submit these bios, we felt we had to be honest!! There goes the surprise!! . . " Eileen and Fred Email: 09/28/2008 My husband Tom Ra_ had back surgery on September 12. It will be a long haul but he is finally leaving the valley and beginning to climb the mountain. The first week the pain was excruciating and he took a lot of pain medicine but they actually moved him today to rehab. He is up in the wheelchair and actually taking a few steps with the walker. We hope he won't be there but a week but it may take 2. We need to do whatever needs to be done to get him back on his feet. He is doing so much better and we hope and pray he will be up and attem soon! They also found a huge cyst on the nerves on his spinal cord when they went in to repair the disks. That could have contributed to some of his pain and inability to walk. They removed the cyst and did all the repair work in about 4 hours and 15 minutes. We expect good things. JoAnn Pi_ Email: 09/04/2008 As many classmates are aware, in addition to me making contacts requesting that bios be submitted, I have been trying to get our directory list complete. In doing so, I have been able to move people from the Missing List to the Directory. Sometimes, I make contacts in which I receive sad news. I was able to learn that James (Jimmy) Holley lived in Honey Grove, Texas. I obtained a phone number and made contact with James' wife only to receive the sad news that Jimmy passed away in June of this year. He had heart problems and was diabetic. His wife said he had been sick for a long time. They had been married for 49 years. Steve please put this note on the web site. Nancy Dr_ Email: 08/16/2008 Edward Tu_'s wife, Patti, passed away this week. I just happened to call his home, actually thinking I would talk with Patti. Edward was very gracious and seemed to be handling the situation well as he informed me of Patti's passing. If any of you want to write, call, or email Edward with your condolences, please use the Contact link on the top menu of the CHS1959 web site to request address, phone, or email information. We will gladly forward that information to you so that you may contact Edward directly. Nancy Dr_ Email: 08/06/2008 "This is so much fun being in touch with you guys. By the way, my husband, Thomas Ra_ (CHS Class of 1957), is going in for some serious back surgery soon. He has 4 disks that need repair. He is having so much trouble getting around that he is on a walker now." JoAnn Pi__ Email: 04/20/2008 12:12 PM Billy Ha_ is deceased. I do not see him on the missing list or the deceased, but he passed away about 2 years ago with diabetes complications. I am no longer a Gold Member of Classmates, so I cannot send emails, but Penny Up_ is on classmates with the last name of Sa_. I will email later today with Gene Mc_'s information. I have remained close to his sister. I tried calling her, but she was out and will call me later today. I may possibly be able to find Leslie Sh_. Barbara Ha_ Ni_ | ||||
